Now that you have a good idea of what a good piece of news is like, create one of your own newscast based on the NTU Stabbing incident. By comparing with as many different sources as you can, you are to report from your own perspective on what could have happened ensuring that your reporting is as unbiased as possible.
Requirements:
1. You need to create a less than 10 minute newscast using the equipment in the Pulse Studio only.
2. You will need to include the following portions in your newscast:
a. A brief summary of what happened…
b. Explain the possible reasons why would a student want to stab his professor…
c. A discussion with an “expert” on one of the reasons why a student would want to stab his professor…
d. An interview with student/s on their views on this story…
e. A conclusion on what are the possible steps students should take when they face similar situations.
Please remember that a good newscast needs to satisfy the following requirements:
1. Journalists should have a neutral point of view, not taking a stand on any issues on which there is some disagreement. Instead, journalists are simply to report "both sides" of an issue.
2. It should mean reporting things without bias.
3. They need to be fair and accurate.

ReplyDeleteDavid might have been too addicted to his computer games and thought that stabbing the professor was nothing wrong as the professor might have caused David scholarship to be revoked and wanted revenge, just like in violent games.

David Widjaja might have been too addicted to games so he might have flunked his examinations, so he cannot take that much pressure, therefore he rent his anger on the professor and felt guilty, leading to suicide.

I think David did not study well and did badly for his examinations. In this case, he will not be able to receive the scholarship given to him. He begged the professor for marks, but he refused to give him. Therefore, he stabbed him.

David hates the professor for not giving the marks in his exam which cost him this scholership to be revoked which he then stabbed him.
I belive david stabed his professor as he could not aford to lose his scholarship for his family was poor.I also feel that his gaming adiction also contributed to his stabbing of his professor(as violent games are the norm).While games are okay so long as they are not taken serriously,i belive he taken his game for reality.Thus he tried to kill his professor in his anger.In his wish to escape,he "took a shortcut"and jumped down a building.He may have thought that crouching(half squat)could keep him safe during the fall(courtesy of a reletively non violent game called HALO)explaining his exceptionatly bloody bottom.

ReplyDeleteHe was a gaming addict and was intrigued on the way the characters in the game killed people and thus decided to try it out.
Ayrton - He despised his professor for giving him low marks for the graduation exam.
He was afraid that he would not graduate from NTU thus he stabbed his professor.
Zoe Lim - The professor gave him a hard time in the university and David wanted to get rid of him.
He despised his life and decided to commit suicide.
Neo Hui Qi - David was worried that his parents might reprimand him for getting bad results and thus stabbed his professor and commited suicide.
In a moment of folly, he stabbed his professor and then thought his professor was already dead and thus decided to commit suicide instead of going to court.
Joyee Wu (16) -David, 21, stabbed his professor (Chan), was stabbed when his back was facing David. After the alleged assault, David then slashed his wrists, walked out the office, and climbed onto a linkway between two buildings before falling to his death. His stab was maybe because of him doing badly in the examinations and he was addicted to gaming and somemore this is his final year until he got his scholarship and the proffeser just failed him which means that the scholarship is a very precious thing to him.
ReplyDeleteZhi Yin (6) - David might have not been doing well in his studies because of game addiction and caused him to lose the scholarship. And when he didnt have the scholarship, he could not pay for the school fees. And as a result he commited suicide instead of looking for help.

Wei Jie-I think that David was addicted to games and thinks of violent stuff everyday and when the Professor failed him, his scholarship was gone. He became too tensed up as the scholarship was important to him resulting in him stabbing the Professor and suiciding.
ReplyDeleteRoy (36) - I think that David should not jump. I think it is stupid of him to suicide.He should not jump because , he could go back to Indonesia and ask for his parents for money. He should kill the the profesor properly.
ReplyDeleteEvan(26)-I think that being a foreign student from another country gave him a lot of stress in the few years he studied here.Maybe he could not cope with the big amount of work here and spent too much time playing games and that made his once good results dropped.When the professor said that they would stop his scholarship,he was very angry and sad because he would not have enough money to support his school fees and it was his last year before he would graduate.As a result,he could not take it in and ended up making a grave mistake.Instead he should have kindly ask the professor for another chance and work hard this time.But he was too repulsive and made a mistake of trying to kill the professor and commiting suicide.
